2024 Election Restrictions for E-Scooters | Portland.gov

Nov 06, 2024Nov 06, 2024

As we approach the upcoming election, we understand there are questions and concerns about the potential for vandalism or violence involving e-scooter devices. Thus, based on direction from the Portland Police Bureau and Portland Fire & Rescue, PBOT is implementing riding and parking restrictions for e-scooters in the downtown area.

Beginning at 4 a.m. on Nov. 5, PBOT will be establishing a NO PARKING and NO RIDING ZONE in the downtown core. The border will cover SW Harvey Milk Street to the north, SW Broadway to the west, SW Clay Street to the south, and SW First Avenue to the east. Please see the map below for further information. Note, this geofence will still allow e-scooters to cross over the Hawthorne and Morrison Bridges and to move north and south along Naito Parkway.

As public order proceeds following the election, PBOT will consult with Portland Police and Portland Fire as to whether we keep restrictions in place, remove them, or expand the restriction area. Of course our goal is to return to normal, uninterrupted service as quickly as possible.

For more information about the City of Portland's preparations for the potential for unrest related to the elections this week, see this news article from the multi-agency Unified Command. Please refer to the Lime and Lyft app for further details about these restrictions regarding e-scooters.
